Sponsor Guidelines

Who is a Sponsor?

  • A sponsor is a Spiritual friend.

  • A sponsor represents the parish community in a special way: In providing one-on-one support the candidate needs for growth and development.

  • A sponsor is called to share his/her faith with the candidate

  • A sponsor helps the candidate understand what it means to live as a Christian by being a witness in his or her own life and by guiding the candidate.

  • A sponsor is like a bridge for the candidate into the life of the parish community.

  • A sponsor helps the candidate understand Catholic traditions.  (You are part of the living tradition of the Church.  It is your faith an experience that God used to pass the faith to your companion.)

  • A sponsor is one who listens with reverence and respects the candidate.

  • A sponsor provides opportunities for the candidate to share what is going on in his or her life.

  • A sponsor not only gives witness to the great mystery of God’s transforming love but is also a witness to how this love is transforming the candidate.

  • A sponsor introduces the candidate to the various ministries of the Church and opportunities for service.

  • A sponsor vouches for the candidate’s sincerity and gives witness to the community on his/her behalf.
